As part of research collaboration between the two entities, and to expand on Knuaf Australia’s R&D capabilities, a contract has been signed for the fabrication of a unique testing rig for the testing of Knauf dry walls in bending between IIE and Knauf Australia. The testing rig works with a vacuum pump applying uniform suction (pressure) on the wall panels, simulating the effects of wind pressure.
Nariman completed his PhD studies and his thesis was very well received by his examiners; only minor corrections were asked to be done mostly typographical. We wish him success and hope he keeps his connection with the group as an alumni.

PJ completed his PhD studies and went back to his home country Brunei and has joined Institut Teknologi Brunei. We wish him success and hope he keeps his connection with the group and an alumni.
Vui and Abolfazl received the Dean’s award for best thesis. This year the School of Civil Engineering had 25 PhD graduates in 2014, and only 3 received the prestigious Dean Award. It is interesting that 2 out of 3 went to our small group showing the quality of our work. Congratulations Vui and Abolfazl.
Late 2014 , early 2015 6 PhD students of the group submitted their theses. Abolfazl Eslami, Behrouz Behnam, Vui Caovan, Hassan Baji,Pang Jen Lim and Nariman Saeed received their degrees . Congratulations to them all.
Hassan Baji completed his PhD and received his degree. His examiners were both impressed with the quality of his submission. One accepted his thesis “as is” and the other with only minor corrections. Best wishes from the group and congratulations.

The government of Papua New Guinea has embarked on an ambitious project building 40000 houses for his employees in a relatively short period. The project contracted by Niule16 and China State Engineering Corporation is the largest in the southern hemisphere. Dr Ronagh has been the chief structural consultant to the project and provided the conceptual design based on innovative sandwich panels that resulted in enhanced aesthetics at a reduced cost. Minister of Housing and Urbanization of PNG has sent a letter of appreciation in this regard as copied below.
This is with great pleasure to announce that both Civil prizes for the best journal article and the best presentation in the 2014 Postgraduate Research Conference went respectively to Vui Cao Van, and Abolfazl Eslami members of the Structural Retrofit Group.
This follows the tradition of last year and the year before where the awards went to the members of the group as well.
